Oakley have been coming out with designer sunglasses specifically for sport for decades now, often utilising world famous sports personalities to push the brand and help to design the perfect sunglasses for each sport. These personalities have included the likes of Lance Armstrong, Bob Burnquist and hundreds of others, taking in sports including cycling, moto cross, skiing, skating, snowboarding and scores of others.

The sport which has most recently gotten the Oakley sunglasses treatment is professional sailing, as they introduce the Oakley Alinghi collection (named after the Swiss sailing team). Oakley settled on the amazing Swiss team as they’re current defenders of both the 33rd Regatta and America’s Cup trophies; an excellent record for a Swiss team..

The collection features five new frames, which we’ll take a quick look at here:

First up is the Oakley Alinghi Scalpel, which offers an extremely high level of visual clarity and performance and are designed to maximise and improve peripheral vision. Quite menacing looking, these specific frames are a great choice for anyone after that competitive edge.

The Oakley Alinghi Jawbone is up next, which is a redesign on the highly-renowned Oakley Jawbone range. Designed to improve the original range with high definition optics and unrivalled clarity, the Alinghi Jawbone is comfortable, flexible and a beautiful piece of design.

Next is the Oakley Alinghi Fuel Cell, (my personal favourite), which has a streamlined, lightweight feel achieved by utilised Oakley’s ultra-light O Matter frames. They also features Oakley’s unique Plutonite lenses (sounds like something out of Superman), making them ideal for water based sports.

The Oakley Alinghi Hijinx is next up, featuring Oakley’s patented XYZ Optics, Plutonite lenses and unique dual-cam hinges, this pair offers unrivalled vision clarity.

Last up is the Oakley Alinghi Square Whisker, which feature amazingly thin frames that Oakley gets through digital sculpting, resulting in some of the most lightweight sunglasses i’ve ever come across.

The whole Alinghi range features Oakley’s HD Polarized Lenses and all have Oakley’s amazing glare protection, making them some of the most well designed and best performing frames available on the market. They’re also suitable for prescription frames, meaning if you normally wear prescription glasses you’ll still be able to take advantage of this phenomenal new range. Thumbs up to Oakley!
