One of the things that people can’t live without is a car.If you think about it, people can’t go anywhere without it.  It truly is a necessity most of the time.But it is an expensive thing to buy as well.Not just in the money that you used to buy it.  But also in keeping it maintained.  And if you truly want to get the most out of your car you need to keep it maintained.And now I present some tips on how to keep your car in good shape.

First thing you should do is to regularly change the oil of your car. Sounds simple but it is so vital.  I try to remind the customers of my auto repair San Diego shop how important it is. Taking care of the oil of your cars will naturally make your cars last longer.But not doing it will result to major problems for your car.Your car’s engine will fail if there is no oil in it. That is a very expensive repair.

Not only is it one of the most important it is also one of the most expensive.  If you have to get it repaired it is very costly.So you should make sure to always take care of it.Because if you do not take care of it, it will hurt you in the long run.So, here are now some of the few tips to take care of your transmission.

One of the minor things that causes problems for your transmission is because people do not check their transmission fluids.  Not having enough transmission fluid causes so much damage that I see it happen all the time in my Vista auto repair shop.What’s sad about this is the fact that it could have been avoided.All a person needs to do is to always check his/her car’s fluid levels.If it is low in level then go and fill it up.It is easy to do and can also save you a lot of money.

Second thing you should avoid is to shift gears while moving. You would be surprised at the number of cars that come in damaged in my Oceanside transmission repair shop from this problem alone.Do not be impatient and shift gears while moving.  It is another thing that is easy to do. But when you fail to do it, you damage your transmission little by little.

Finally, do not let your transmission overheat.An overheated transmission will be damaged more easily.  I always advise my La Costa auto repair clients to make sure to add a coolant type of additive to their fluid.This will help your transmission to run cooler.

One thing people don’t even know is how crucial it is to maintain your car properly.Wel don’t really value how important these cars are that we use to drive around in.We don’t even seem aware that our safety is at risk whenever we go out. First thing is it is vital to the overall maintenance of your car to do regular tuneups.What I am talking about is making sure your car is on schedule for regular tuneups.  As mentioned your car’s are big investments.  If you don’t maintain it you run the risk of ruining it.  I have seen many clients ruin their vehicle and take it into my auto repair San Diego shop after the fact.  I see that if they had just performed some routine maintenance, the problem may never have happened.

By doing some regular checking of their brakes.  Or having it checked regularly they could have saved a lot of money.

First off since I own a Vista auto repair shop I know how expensive transmission repairs can be.  So I always tell my clients to check a couple of things first.  This way they can make sure they need to come in.  First off they can check the fluid.  The fluid should be clear.If you find that the fluid is black or dark, that is a warning sign of problems and the car has to be brought in.

Second thing they can check at home is to check the gear shifting.  You do this by moving your gear from park to drive.Or you can shift it from park to reverse.  What you are looking for is for the gears to shift smoothly.What you hope doesn’t happen is a jerking motion.If you find that your car is jerking that is an indication of problems with your transmission.  In my La Costa transmission repair shop this is one of the big signs of transmission problems.Quite a few cars that are brought in have this problem.

Finallyl what you can check for is any leaks of your transmission fluid.  You once again check this with your dipstick.But you won’t be able to tell unless you do this checking regularly.  I advise all my customers in my La Costa auto repair shop to always check your fluids.  People are familiar with checking for oil.But they need to also look at their transmission fluid.  This way they can tell if their fluid is leaking.

If you follow these tips you can make sure your car’s transmission stays good.

Last sign of problem that I know of is when you shift the gears and it is jerky then that would be another sign of problems to come.  All shifting should be smooth with no slipping.If your car jerks everytime you shift gear then that would be a sure sign of a worn out transmission. There are people out there who really love cars.They take care of their cars just like they do with their babies.Then there are those people who just ignore it and just consider it as something they use to get to somewhere.They just use it to carry them around places.  For those second group of people that is a wrong decision. As mentioned earlier people give up a big chunk of their money to buy cars.And since they already spent that money they should also take care of their cars so it can last for a long time.  All my clients with my auto repair San Diego shop know this.I always remind them all the time that they need to make their cars undergo maintenance regularly. By taking good care of their cars they will have their cars last longer.And by ignoring and neglecting it they are risking their cars and themselves.

If the car is already a used one then the current owner must double his/her effort in maintaining for it to last longer.  Especially when they don’t know how the previous owner cared for the car.If it is already an old car it might even need a smog test.If they only make their cars undergo maintenance after they have seen the results of a smog test then it can lead to more expenses especially if it fails the test.  I have seen this time and time again in the smog test San Diego shop that I run.If they just regularized their car’s maintenance they could have saved a lot of money.

Lastly, even if your car is old or new you should take care of your brakes.The brakes are one the most important parts of your car.It will save your life when need be.But it can also drain your money if you neglect them.  Most customers are shocked with San Diego brake service repair prices after they have failed the test.Once again a little maintenance here and there would have saved them a lot of money.

Cars now have more durable materials as compared before.  Even cars once considered cheap last longer.But even if cars are more durable now problems still happen from time to time.One of the major problems a car can have is by having problems with the transmission.It is not just one of the biggest problems but it can also be one of the most costly. 

So here are some things to look for that I have learned running my Vista transmission repair company.First thing you should do is to maintain the level of your fluids at a good level or, better yet, fill them up regularly.  If you don’t you could burn up your transmission fast.  So always use your dipstick to check fluid levels.Be sure it is at a stable level. 

Second thing you have to check is if it is already dirty.  A dirty transmission fluid could be signs of a problem.  If you find that the fluids are dirty or black then have it checked immediately.  I get cars in all the time at my La Costa transmission repair shop that have this problem. But in bringing in their cars early for checkups they were able to avoid more expensive repairs or replacements.

Next if you are going to do some maintenance yourself be careful.  When you change the fluids make sure you buy the right fluid for your transmission.Putting in a wrong fluid does happen because people make mistakes and it can be surprising.  If someone were to do this it could burn up your transmission immediately.  So when changing your fluids take extra care to put in the right one.  I tell all my clients of my Vista auto repair shop when in doubt just have professionals do it for you.  For such an expensive to replace part of your car it makes sense.

So if you abide by these things then you can save and maintain your transmission for a long time.Doing the steps mentioned above will take you only a few a minutes but can save you a lot of money.
