Born in late September, my constellation is Libra. The constellation study said that Libras are born artist. It may not be accurate, but I am always interested in arts, including design, painting, music, etc. I took painting classes for two years when I was in junior middle school, however I didn’t continue to paint for some reasons. Ironically, I studied Physics in college. And now, I have been in the career of trading wall-decor related products! Life is just full of surprises. The comfort is that, I deal with wall décor related products here with WholePort. There are always beautiful, artsy things to look at.

So when our company, traditionally a trading and manufacturer, decided to launch the ecommerce business, and had a website, I felt somehow my artist dream had a place to grow. Graphic designing for webpages might be my new try.

I tried, but had to give up. Web designing capabilities couldn’t be obtained overnight, like all other professions. It seems for the time being I had to stay to be a fan of this. Through learning I could well appreciate great designing at least. It is never too late to learn new tricks, right? That’s how I stumbled upon Robin Williams’ Non-Designer’s Design Book. The book sounded like a prefect one for me, a designing fan and layman, by its name. I have to say that it is lucky for me to find the book. It had entered my personal “top-3-readings-of-the-year” list.

Robin Williams wrote the book in a very plain but interesting way. Her way of introducing the design theory, the typefaces, and the colors, etc. are crisp and clear. Even if as a beginner as I was, I could easily grab what she meant to say. Like every job requiring both creativity and skills, graphic designing is no easy at all. Talking about the basics with such great ease is amazing. Naturally, I went to look for other books by the author. Soon I decided my next big reading should be Design Workshop. Continuing the reading of Robin Williams series will cultivate my love for designing for sure.

Hope you share the joy of reading the books as well!
