When a teenager starts showing the signs of a serious eating disorder or she begins that very destructive habit of plucking and picking at herself constantly, the first place we choose to put a little blame is on TV and magazines. We say that the flat tummies and the perfectly flawless skin encourage girls and women to go out of their way to look perfect. This really isn’t the case at all.

Skin care info that is reliable and honest is hard enough to find. When we add in all the information pummeling us about weight and clothes, we may as well just pick up the fashion magazine of our choice and learn how to dress and care for our bodies. We read about weight loss products like the ‘new wonder’ acai berry and we read about resolving wrinkles and cellulite. Then we learn how to clear up the random zit with the chronic battle between benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid skin care products.

We actually want to choose to be supermodel material because we tend to believe that this is what beauty really is. In some ways it is, sure, but it is far from the only way to look good for life. Our daily regimen is set up to allow us the freedom of creating our own beauty to the best of our ability.

We do what we do in order to feel like we are a million bucks all wrapped into one handy little toned package. We like to pretend that we are not shallow or vain and perhaps we are not. But there is no denying that at the first sign of facial blemishes, you run out and buy everything you need. When you see your first wrinkle, you are off to find the most potent skin care products available.

When we start to see that we are not going to be perfect individuals, we still chase the weight loss and clear face products all over town until we can finally find what we are looking for.

Looking good and being the best that we can be often goes hand in hand. Being charged up about your body and your face just bolsters your confidence, often high enough to give you courage when you are about to enter a room full of strangers or are about to meet a blind date.

We aren’t interested in becoming supermodels ourselves, but if there’s a product on the market that will slim our waist line, eliminate the wrinkles we’ve collected, and keep our face free from pimples for the rest of our lives, we will buy it. We will buy it even if we aren’t sure that it works.
