Contrary to most popular opinion, it isn’t always necessary to dry clean a feather bed comforter or down bedding. Other than an occasional airing-out to keep the bed smelling fresh, it ought to be cleaned just about one time a year. 

Just read over the care label on the bed or comforter. It should say whether or not the bed may be washed or must be dry-cleaned. Prior to washing, check for tears within the cloth.
